Myocardial ischemia/reperfusion is well recognized as a major cause of apoptotic or necrotic
cell death. Neonatal rat cardiac myocytes are intrinsically resistant to hypoxia-induced
apoptosis, suggesting a protective role of energy-generating substrates. In the present
